This week Chantal Welsink and I joined the very first Travelling Fellowship of the NOV Werkgroep Hand & Pols - a valuable opportunity to visit four leading Dutch centers for hand and wrist surgery in just a few days. From academic hospitals to specialized clinics, we witnessed an incredibly diverse spectrum of procedures: various types of arthroplasties and arthrodesis, wrist arthroscopy, 3D-assisted corrective osteotomies, nonunion repairs, carpal and DRUJ instability procedures, ligament reconstruction, nerve decompressions, denervation of the wrist, targeted muscle reinnervation, and a wide range of soft-tissue procedures. We exchanged ideas with experts and experienced different approaches to patient care, surgical techniques, and team organization. It was inspiring to see the growing collaboration with medical engineers for complex 3D surgical solutions, and with plastic surgeons and hand therapists to deliver the best possible care for patients with hand and wrist problems.
