You don’t look at a video like this and just see a little girl dancing; you look at it and you see a piece of the world’s soul trying to heal itself. Look at 10-year-old Oleksandra Paskal performing the "Dance of Freedom" right in the heart of Paris, by the Arc de Triomphe. Look at the grace, the focus, the absolute magic she’s creating. In 2022, a brutal Russian missile strike in Zatoka stole her leg. But it couldn't touch her spirit. She went through grueling rehabilitation, got her prosthetic, and she didn't just walk again — she returned to rhythmic gymnastics. She is still standing. She is still creating. It’s breathtaking, it’s heartbreaking, and honestly, it should make every single one of us stop scrolling. But while we honor Oleksandra's undeniable light as she takes her message from Paris to New York, Rio, Nairobi, and Tokyo, we have to talk about the darkness that tried to put it out. Oleksandra is a miracle, but she represents a staggering tragedy. Since the full-scale invasion began, Russia's war has torn through the very heartbeat of Ukrainian culture and human potential. We aren't just talking about numbers; we’re talking about lives, dreams, and futures cut brutally short: 💔 Hundreds of Ukrainian athletes and coaches have been killed. Promising young gymnasts, runners, and future Olympians who will never step onto a podium. 💔 Hundreds of artists, musicians, conductors, and dancers have been lost. A deliberate, crushing attempt to erase Ukraine's cultural elite. 💔 Thousands more have been left with severe, life-altering injuries — losing the very arms that played violins, the legs that ran tracks, the voices that filled theaters. Nothing will ever give Oleksandra her leg back. Nothing will return the stolen lives of the creators and competitors who should be alive today. Which brings us to a truth we cannot afford to look away from: Normalization is a choice. It is completely unacceptable for Russian athletes, musicians, and cultural figures to be welcomed onto international stages, to compete in the Olympic Games, or to share global platforms as if everything is fine. It isn't fine. You cannot celebrate global unity on a stage while your nation actively dismantles the human lives and cultural heritage of your neighbor. Until this brutal war is completely stopped, and until Russia is held fully accountable under international law, there is no "business as usual." No neutral flags. No separating art from politics.
