This encaustic artwork together with other few artworks, were bought by my grandfather from Arthur Thurman. Atrthur and OliverJr Thurman were Oliver Thurman's nephews. Oliver Thurman was the mayor of Baia Mare and a patron of arts. He was the one who contributed decisively to the establishment of the summer painting school, named "Painters' Colony" , in Baia Mare, under the guidance of painter Hollosy Simon, on March 20, 1898. Unfortunately, in the very year of the colony's establishment, Oliver Thurman died in September 1898, just one month after the tragic death of his six-year-old daughter. Here, are some artists who have. shaped their personality and creative abilities at "Baia-Mare Painters Colony " before they reached international notoriety, Edmund Okun, Konrad Krzyzanovski, Leo Kamir–Kaufmann, Mstislav Dobujinski, Emil Pottner, Jakob Nussbaum, Max Buri, Hans Emmenegger, Ada Löwith, Richard Gerst, Leo Kober, Josef Engelhart, Károly Ferenczy, Béla I. Grünwald, Dezsõ Wimmer – Czigány, Sádor Kubiny, Arthur G. Verona and others. Also Victor Brauner has been attending the "Colonia Pictorilor " for one summer, meeting Oliver Thurman's nephews, in 1936 My grandfather was a good friend with Oliver Thurman Jr , who was a fellow Liberal Party member and also he was friend with Arthur Thurman, who owned for a period of time, an art gallery, between 1933-1955. Different Mr.Brauner artworks, including the one with a dedication to Arthur and Oliver Jr , were bought by my grandfather from Mr. Arthur Thurnan
