While the spotlight is on football⚽, here are a few things about Argentina 🇦🇷 (through my own lens👓): 1. 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡… 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 Though Argentina is a Spanish-speaking country, a big part of its population has #italian roots (fun fact: "Messi" is an Italian surname). Argentinian Spanish absorbed a lot of Italian vocabulary—and even the melody sounds more Italian than #spanish in Spain. 2. 𝐁𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐬 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬—𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 Because Buenos Aires—Argentina’s capital—has Parisian-style architecture and a strong Italian food culture (farinata, anyone?), it carries a distinctly “European” feeling. And yes—there’s even a “Palermo” here… not in Sicily, but in Buenos Aires. 3. 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐲 Two of the most iconic Argentinian football clubs are River Plate and Boca Juniors (born in La Boca neighbourhood). Their rivalry? Intense. Sometimes explosive. 4. 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨: 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 The passionate partner dancing💃tango was born here. 5. 𝐀 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 Evita Perón, a highly influential and controversial former First Lady, passed away decades ago. Yet people still visit her grave, bringing flowers🌹.
