Last week, MARIN colleagues were in Tokyo for the 45th International Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering Conference (OMAE), an inspiring week of knowledge exchange and international collaboration. We presented a wide range of papers, covering topics such as: • CFD simulations for offshore wind and vortex-induced vibrations - Arjen Koop • Benchmarking models for predicting slamming and whipping loads on a ferry - ruddy kurnia • Extreme values for wave-in-deck loads using probabilistic adaptive screening methods - Sanne van Essen • Sloshing dependency on boil-off in a large-scale wave flume - Rodrigo Ezeta • innovative concepts for offshore photovoltaics - Naman Baderiya • Applications of machine learning and reinforcement learning in seakeeping and manoeuvring - Gaspard Ducamp, PhD • Reinforcement learning for course keeping of ships in waves - Justin Greep • Biofouling as an increasingly important topic in shipping - Rodrigo Ezeta These studies will be online soon and contribute to MARIN’s mission: enabling the safe, secure and sustainable use of the oceans for a thriving maritime sector. Great to contribute to this and share our knowledge worldwide. Thanks to all colleagues for their efforts and to the organizers for a strong program. #OMAE #MARIN #offshore #oceanengineering #innovation #research #collaboration
