🚨 Paper Alert: Development of an early stage hydrofoil design tool including unsteady hydrodynamics MARIN has developed an early‑stage hydrofoil design tool that bridges the gap between high‑fidelity hydrodynamic modelling and the need for fast, practical design exploration. By training a recurrent neural network on unsteady lift and drag data from RANS simulations, the tool accurately captures hydrofoil performance during forced pitch and heave motions — at a fraction of the computational cost.  The result is a surrogate model that enables rapid multi‑objective optimisation and supports informed design decisions early in the process. With validation cases and a web‑based application demonstrating its practical value, the tool shows strong potential to accelerate conceptual hydrofoil design while retaining essential physical fidelity.
