📢 Paper alert - CFD investigation of viscous forces on rectangular members of semisubmersibles In Phase I of the OC7 project, a collaborative research team uses high‑fidelity CFD simulations to investigate viscous forces acting on the rectangular members of semisubmersible platforms. The study combines 2.5D forced‑oscillation analyses of individual pontoon sections with full 3D simulations of a complete semisubmersible structure, revealing how added mass and drag coefficients vary along the platform due to three‑dimensional and free‑surface effects. By comparing coefficients derived from simplified and full‑scale geometries across a range of Keulegan–Carpenter numbers, the work provides practical guidance, validated data and empirical formulae that can be directly applied in engineering‑level hydrodynamic models—helping designers reduce uncertainty in floating wind platform analysis. 📄 Interested in the details?
