Art Consulting | Art Basel recap The Body and Mind Each edition of Art Basel in Basel is marked by particular artistic currents and tendencies. The art world presents its finest achievements during what is arguably the largest art fair in the world. Thanks to different curatorial visions and the courage to compete within this vast display of artistic and commercial power, galleries of all sizes exhibit side by side, creating a rich diversity of perspectives while promoting both younger artists and those less familiar to the wider public. This year, two tendencies particularly stood out to me: artworks that reflect on the human body and the state of mind, and the variety of works carved in stone / marble. For centuries, the human body was depicted as an athletic, muscular ideal - almost divine in its perfection. Today, however, we are far removed from that vision. The body has become a canvas upon which vulnerability, suffering, anxiety, and human fragility are inscribed. Through photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, videos and installations, artists portray ordinary people grappling with struggle and the challenges of navigating the world we live in. What a mirror… Among the many works that left impression on me for their scale, medium, and expressive power were pieces by: Vojtěch Kovařík, Mitsuko Miwa Yin Yunya, Michel François Martial Raysse, Thomas Schütte Elisabeth Glaessner, Robin F. Williams Rochelle Goldberg, Edith Dekyndt Andreas Lolis, Antonio Calderara Maurizio Cattelan, Louise Bourgeois and others.. #artbasel #contemporaryart #basel
