A highly successful educational exercise on the Prevention and Control of Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was recently completed, as part of the Infection Control Nursing course at the Department of Nursing of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The exercise aimed to strengthen the core competencies of the nursing students in infection prevention and patient safety. We trained a total of 152 fourth-semester nursing students in the following areas: · Fundamental principles of HAIs prevention and control · Evidence-based hand hygiene implementation · Rational and safe use of personal protective equipment (PPE) · Central venous catheter insertion techniques following aseptic principles · Central venous catheter maintenance, including dressing changes The training was innovatively structured as an educational game, integrating digital technologies and experiential learning methods. This approach enhanced student engagement and contributed to a deeper understanding of critical infection control practices. Through this initiative, we actively contribute to the global effort against HAIs and AMR by equipping future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and responsibility necessary to maintain high standards of care.
