Most housing becomes outdated. This one adapts — to terrain, users and time. STADTLICHTUNG is a housing concept in Bern that addresses a key challenge: how to build sustainably while ensuring long-term adaptability. The project is shaped by the natural slope rather than imposed on it — reducing intervention in the terrain while creating differentiated living qualities and views. The building is conceived as an open system. Structure, façade and building services are clearly separated, allowing apartments to be adapted, renovated or reconfigured over time — without structural intervention. Designed to respond to changing user needs over time. This approach simplifies future renovations and extends the building lifecycle. Each unit is oriented to maximize daylight, views and connection to landscape. The spatial organisation creates a gradient between private and shared spaces — supporting everyday interaction and a sense of community. The project reduces construction costs, CO₂ emissions and enables future reuse — three key challenges in housing in Bern. Designed for disassembly, adaptation and long-term use. Durch klare Systemtrennung können sich die Wohnungen flexibel an veränderte Bedürfnisse anpassen. Umbauten werden vereinfacht und der Lebenszyklus des Gebäudes verlängert. Gleichzeitig stärkt die Abfolge von privaten und gemeinschaftlichen Räumen das Zusammenleben.
