Mykor raises £4 million to grow construction materials from agriculture waste 🍄🏗️ Mykor, a Bristol biofabrication company, has raised £4 million led by Clean Growth Fund, taking total capital to £7.5 million, with £338 million in offtake agreements already signed. The timing is structural. #Construction accounts for roughly 39% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and tightening rules including the UK's 2027 Future Homes Standard and the EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive are pushing developers towards lower #embodiedcarbon materials that remain commercially viable. Founded in 2021 by Olivia Page and Valentina Dipietro, Mykor grows structural and insulating components from agricultural and industrial #waste in days, combining engineered #mycelium strains, green chemistry additives, and closed-loop automated #manufacturing. Crucially it operates as a #biofabrication platform, letting existing manufacturers adopt #biomaterials without rebuilding supply chains. Its flagship MykoSIP partition system delivers around 23 kg CO₂e saving per square metre and at least 50% lower embodied carbon, while using 90% less water and 40% less electricity than polystyrene, at comparable thermal and acoustic performance. Co-investors include British Business Bank, The FSE Group, Green Angel Ventures, and Innovate UK. That mix of regulatory tailwind, commercial traction, and platform economics is what makes this #cleantech raise worth watching.
