🚀 A major step toward Sustainable Electronics: The MAPEX project “Circular Electronics” is driving change! The electrification and digitalization of our daily lives are accelerating progress — but they’re also fueling a growing crisis: e-waste. Since 2010, global e-waste has doubled to 62 million tonnes per year — a trend that is no longer environmentally sustainable. A major contributor? Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), which make up 3–6% of total e-waste mass — and are still mostly incinerated or landfilled. The MAPEX project “Circular Electronics” is pioneering fully recyclable materials and components for a sustainable electronics future. 🔬 Through a unique interdisciplinary collaboration of chemistry, engineering, electrical engineering, and innovation management, the project researches on: ✅ Fully recyclable circuit boards ✅ Organic semiconductors ✅ Sensor systems designed for reuse 💡 Key innovation: Novel dynamic polymer networks (vitrimers) — materials that can be broken down into their basic building blocks during recycling. Plus: Biosynthetic high-performance fibers that combine sustainability with cutting-edge performance. Drawing on empirical methods and real-world applications, the project bridges fundamental research with tangible, short-term outcomes — including circular business models and active engagement with industry and society. 💡 Sustainability is no longer optional — it’s essential. And with projects like “Circular Electronics,” we’re proving that innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. 👉 Interested in the future of electronics?
