𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗲t: What influences ownership and use of protective equipment (PPE) among motorcyclist? 🏍️𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘂𝗽 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘁-𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝘁? It's not just about knowing the risks; if it were, the answer would be simple. There's habit, identity, social context, and a lot of nuance in between. 🤓That's what our paper tries to unpack: "𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗣𝗣𝗘) 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀", just published in Traffic Injury Prevention. https://lnkd.in/eK87i_Er 🌎Across five European cities, we looked for behavioral variation, different riding cultures, different norms, different relationships with risk. That comparative lens made the findings richer and, we hope, more scalable. An intense and unique project, no doubt. What I'll take with me is the mix of minds around the table; industry, academia, different fields, all looking at the same problem from different angles, and all passion about road safety behaviour.
