For more than a decade, the Maison has gathered twelve knights around the Round Table, each figure sculpted and finished by hand, each chapter drawn from a legend. That curiosity has always been part of how Roger Dubuis works.   Today it turns toward Japan.   Roger Dubuis introduces the Excalibur Kabuto Legacy, a timepiece built around the twelve busho who brought Japan's century of civil conflict to a close and, from 1603, opened 265 years of peace. At the centre of the dial stands Edo Castle, read as architecture and rebuilt in miniature from seventeen elements across four decorative techniques. The twelve helmets surround it; the twelve family crests they carried sit on the caseback. The deep indigo of the dial and strap traces a single colour from the cloth worn beneath samurai armour to the prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige.   The twelve kabuto honour an ancestral art. For centuries, Japan's master armourers have forged and laced helmets of this kind, a craft handed down through generations and held to an uncompromising measure. Each helmet on the dial was sculpted from the historical record, faithful to the antlers, horns, and crests its bushō carried into the field. In Geneva, the Maison designed, produced, and finished the calibre RD821 entirely in-house: 172 components, 88 quality controls, 14 types of finishing, certified by the Poinçon de Genève. Mr. Roger Dubuis held a lasting admiration for Japanese craft, and the Maison's readiness to meet other traditions as equals is part of what he left behind.   The Excalibur Kabuto Legacy is a limited edition of 28 timepieces, unveiled in Tokyo.
