This may sound a little bit provocative, but hear me out: A New Survey Reveals Alarming Gaps in Hospital Readiness for Early Sepsis Recognition and Management. Sepsis continues to be a major global health crisis, responsible for nearly 49 million cases and 11 million deaths each year. While international guidelines and resolutions underscore the urgency of early detection and treatment, the real question remains: Are European hospitals truly prepared to deliver? A recent cross-sectional survey, led by Christian Scheer and published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medeicine (AJRCCM) also called the BLUE journal, offers the most comprehensive snapshot to date. Drawing on responses from over 1,000 hospitals in 69 countries (including Belgium), the study reveals a complex landscape—marked by progress in some areas, but persistent shortfalls in critical aspects of sepsis care.
