It was fantastic!! About bringing talents together and making dreams come true...! Monday evening we saw an impressive, spectacular musical ‘De Bokkenrijders’ in one of my hometowns, Maastricht, produced by serve hermans. The Musical took us to a period in the eighteenth century in the Limburgeois part of The Netherlands and Belgium. A dark era for the peasants because of the hunger due to crop failure and the ruthless ruling of the ‘schout’ (bailiff). ‘De Bokkenrijders’ is said to be a group of bandits, riding on billy goats, plundered, robbed and set fires. In reality they were probably angry starving peasants with masks on, standing up against the suffocating influence of the schout and the Roman Catholic church. We see a mother who just lost her youngest daughter starved to death, who loses her husband, tortured and killed by the schout and decides desperately to join ‘de Bokkenrijders’ to protect her family and get some money. She ends up as a so called ‘witch’ on a stake… Originally, the musical was performed in the ‘Geusselt’, the stadium of the Maastricht football club, MVV, during a couple of weeks. The show we had tickets for was however cancelled because of the heat. The organisation had to disappoint many visitors who had a ticket. Then, André Rieu and his son Pierre Rieu reached out to help ‘de Bokkenrijders’. They are currently performing their world famous show with the Johan Strauss Orchestra for several weeks at the ‘Vrijthof’, a beautiful Maastricht square. If you have the time, it is worth visiting. Even if this is not your type of music and you do not waltz all day, the shows André Rieu presents are very impressive and entertaining. For me André and Pierre, like Servé and all the actors and musicians are the perfect examples of people who use their talents, follow their passions and dreams and make their dreams real. I remember seeing André with his Orchestra on the same Vrijthof for the first time with a small group of people and now he tours around the world bringing many people together, laughing, enjoying. This is what we all need, instead of making war… Monday evening it all came together. It was the last show of ‘de Bokkenrijders’, saying goodbye on the beautiful Vrijthof. Incredible singing touching our souls, impressive acting seen up close on big screens by fantastic camera work, torches, fireworks, horses running through the public, it all completed a fantastic show.
