This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Barbara Plank (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) to the MCDS Distinguished Lecture Series at the University of Mannheim. In her talk “Human-centered LLMs for Inclusive Language Technology,” she discussed how large language models can be developed in a more human-centered way. She highlighted the challenges LLMs face when dealing with linguistic variation, ambiguity, and diverse language communities, and emphasized the importance of data-centric and human-inspired approaches to build more robust, fair, and trustworthy language technologies. We sincerely thank Prof. Dr. Barbara Plank for her visit to Mannheim and for the inspiring talk and thought-provoking discussions with our community!
