As global fuel pressures intensify, the call for home-grown solutions is getting louder. This week, crossbench parliamentarians led by Bob Katter — including Andrew Wilkie, Rebekha Sharkie, Andrew Gee and Dai Le — called for urgent action to strengthen Australia’s fuel security, including greater use of ethanol-blended fuels produced here in Australia. The reality is: • Australia produces the feedstocks needed for ethanol • Domestic ethanol can be used today to support fuel supply • Yet we continue to rely heavily on imported fuels Other countries are accelerating ethanol uptake as part of their fuel security strategy. Australia has the same opportunity — to back local industry, support regional communities and reduce exposure to global supply shocks. The solution is already here.
