Tech Tuesdays Female Representation in the Australian Tech Workforce   The subject of female inclusion and representation within the world of tech and the broader STEM field has been discussed extensively in recent years.   A recent T-EDI Standards Impact report has highlighted areas of both progress and concern within the Australian technical workforce at a time in which the industry is changing (and growing), at an unprecedented rate.   In this week's edition of Tech Tuesdays, we have highlighted some of the major findings within the report and assess how initiatives introduced within the industry are impacting upon the wider issues of female representation within the Australian Tech Workforce.     🟠 Underrepresentation Persists in the World of Tech  Despite representing 49% of the Australian population, women make up just 20% of the country's ‘highly technical’ workforce   🟠 Diversity Strategies are Becoming Commonplace 77% of Companies Surveyed have implemented gender diversity initiatives, the effectiveness of these strategies vary widely.   🟠 More Needs to be Done to Achieve Required Growth Predictions suggest a further 1.2 Million tech workers are needed by 2030 to achieve industry objectives, this cannot be achieved without increased female representation   🟠 Most Companies now Implement Flexible Working Policies  However, only 15% of roles are re-defined for part-time workers, the majority of whom are female   🟠 Retention Rates Amongst Female Employees are a Concern Women are leaving highly technical roles at nearly twice the rate of men after the age of 40, with little being done to address this imbalance in retention   Do these findings reflect the reality of female representation in your workplace? What more can and should companies be doing to address the issue of gender diversity and representation in the world of tech?
