We recently welcomed pupils from secondary schools across the North West to our Faculty of Health and Education, for the Young Green Briton Challenge regional celebration. 🙌🍃 The challenge is a national sustainability and innovation programme for pupils aged 16 -18, inspiring them to get involved in climate change action and become sustainability champions. Teams across participating schools created their ideas for a project, by exploring real world challenges that are impacting climate change. They then developed their ideas and prototypes into tangible products and initiatives to showcase to a panel of judges. Schools were invited to pitch their projects in a 'Dragons Den' style panel. Panellist's included experts across industry and education, including Ben Ives, Deputy Director of Institute for Children's Futures, Manchester Metropolitan University. Liz Price MBE and Afzal Khan CBE MP joined the event, where they spoke about the importance of embedding sustainability education and activity within communities and across curriculums. Including our Carbon Literacy Training programme. Saul Becker also joined to hear students pitches and see their work first hand, with projects on display throughout the day. Attendees were able to see all the fantastic work that had gone in to developing their ideas. The projects pitched ranged from initiatives to reduce food waste, embed recycling within schools and provide accessible renewable energy devices for marginalised communities. Congratulations to all the winning schools, who will go on to participate in the national final next year! #YoungGreenBritonChallenge #McrMetProud
