A year ago, researchers at the Oxford-Man Institute and our Boston research centre, together with leading political economist Professor Mark Blyth, set out to determine whether the retreat of globalisation is truly a structural transformation. The answer, we believe, is yes. In the latest paper in the OMI series, we argue that deglobalisation is the most likely future path for the world, absent course-correcting forces. We examinedeglobalisation alongside three alternative regime futures: Re-Americanisation, De-Americanisation and Fragmentation. Each carry materially different consequences for asset returns, inflation dynamics and portfolio construction.
