When something goes wrong in Germany, up to 80,000 volunteers show up. Now they'll be arriving in 490 new MAN TGEs, supplied for use in civil protection and disaster relief. For us at MAN, this is a major order that arrives at a meaningful moment: the tenth anniversary of the TGE. A milestone. And a timely pivot. This is the first large-scale federal order from the THW for MAN transporters. The vehicles are divided into two groups: 350 command vehicles and 140 personnel carriers, designed to transport the people who show up in the most vulnerable situations, and the ones who come to resolve them. Delivery in two phases, from 2025 to 2029. "Projects like these require reliability, flexibility, and close coordination with the bodybuilders. Being awarded this contract confirms our approach in the public sector," says Christian Götz, Head of Sales TGE at MAN Truck & Bus Germany. And indeed, the two van types serve very specific functions. Personnel carriers transport people and equipment, and double as mobile coordination spaces on site. Command vehicles act as mobile command posts, enabling communication and real-time situation assessment in the field. Together, they give the THW the flexibility it needs in complex emergency scenarios. First prototypes were delivered in December 2025, with series production scheduled to begin in August 2026, in collaboration with bodybuilder Wietmarscher Ambulance and Special Vehicle GmbH (WAS).
