There is only so much a spec sheet can prove. A week on the road under equal conditions proves more. At the eTruck Tour Germany, the MAN eTGX 20.544 joined a test designed to answer some of the questions that matter most to operators: how practical electric heavy-duty trucks already are in national long-haul transport, and how ready the charging infrastructure really is. Hosted by Truck & Trailer Welt, the tour brought together MAN, Mercedes and Scania for a 1,400-kilometre drive across Germany. Starting from the Kögel site in Burtenbach, four specialist journalists switched vehicles every four hours, while professional driver Alexander Hollender added an additional reality check from an operator’s point of view. To keep the comparison fair, the three Kögel Light Plus trailers used were identical and carried the same cargo. Different route profiles, varied topographies, charging times, energy consumption and recuperation behaviour all formed part of the assessment. The final results will be revealed at the Truck & Trailer Welt symposium at IAA Transportation in September in Hanover. One early takeaway, however, is already clear: our MAN eTGX 20.544 with six battery packs delivered a very strong performance, staying below 90 kWh/100 km in overall consumption. Thanks to the TTW editorial team for organising the tour. #MANTruckAndBus #MANeTGX #eTruck #ElectricTrucks #eTruckTourGermany #ElectricTrucks #IAA2026 #FleetManagement #LongHaulTransport
