MAN Truck & Bus has proven that fully electric long-haul transport is already a reality – even across the Alps. Together with Unterer GmbH, we successfully completed a 377 km night-time run over the Brenner Pass with two MAN eTGX trucks under real operating conditions, transporting temperature-sensitive goods without emissions. The result: outstanding efficiency, strong recuperation, and an average energy consumption of just 0.86 kWh/km. The project was driven by Theresa Unterer, Managing Director of Unterer Logistics, who took the wheel herself, as well as Rudi Kuchta, Head of MAN Truck & Bus in Austria – both committed to putting the vehicles to the test under real-world conditions. The Austrian trade magazine DER ÖSTERREICHISCHE TRANSPORTEUR accompanied the project and reported on it in a recent edition. Beyond technical performance, the journey highlights a compelling business case. With significant toll reductions and operational advantages such as exemption from night-time driving restrictions, electric trucks can deliver substantial cost savings in daily operations. At the same time, projects like this contribute directly to a broader ambition. With the “Green Brenner Initiative”, MAN Truck & Bus and Dettendorfer Energy GmbH, together with partners from industry, energy and infrastructure, are working to further accelerate the use of battery-electric trucks along the Brenner corridor. The goal is to establish the route as a model region for zero-emission logistics, reducing CO₂ emissions, lowering noise levels for local residents and demonstrating that sustainable road freight transport is both environmentally and economically viable – already today. This project sends a clear message: zero-emission trucking is not only feasible – it is ready to scale. At MAN, we are driving this transformation forward with powerful vehicles, real-world expertise, and the ambition to redefine sustainable transport.
