Trail running is often described as a local sport – rooted in landscapes, communities and individual challenges. But moments like last weekend in Hokkaido remind us how global this culture has become. At the Mammut Cup Sapporo Teine Trail, around 1,300 runners gathered just outside Sapporo for what is widely considered the largest trail running event in Hokkaido – a region that sits at the heart of Japan’s outdoor culture. Across different distances, from 50 km to shorter formats, the event brought together a diverse community of participants and spectators. What stood out was not only the scale, but the connection between performance, product experience and local engagement. We are proud of our athletes delivering strong results: - Naho Kotani took first place in the 50 km women’s race - Kesete Habtetsion Berhane won the 34 km - Syuuichirou Suzuki finished second in the same distance At the same time, more than 50 runners tested Mammut Aenergy Trail shoes on site - several of them choosing to race in them. But beyond individual metrics, this kind of event highlights something more fundamental. Trail running continues to grow through local authenticity, yet increasingly connects global audiences, athletes and brands in a shared mindset.
