Whilst addressing the Forum members present at the Annual General Assembly, Dr Gordon Corina explained that recent economic data on the performance of the maritime industry strongly suggests that further expansion should be based on high-productivity service activity. “Activities in the Regulatory & Governance space; Financial & Legal; Human Capital Management & Education will boost the industry’s output and share in the overall economy whilst serving to buttress further success in the traditional sectors of ship registration, sea transport and port services, bunkering and logistics”. “Going forward in tapping mew opportunities”, added Dr Cordina “the Industry needs to follow the direction set forward by the National Maritime Transport Strategy, which in turn must align to policies emerging from the European Union including the Pact for the Mediterranean and the Ports and Maritime Industrial strategies”. Dr Cordina concluded that the maritime industry can continue to prosper and achieve the ambitions outlined in Malta Vision 2050 through innovation and higher-value services. In order to do so, he advised that the future path must be driven by private initiative, investment and political will to support the industry’s continued expansion and competitiveness.
