🦇🐗🐦Wild Meat Dialogues 🐦🐗🦇 🌏🌿 Proud to contribute to this important regional discussion on wild meat in Asia and the Pacific! A new article highlights one of the biggest challenges facing our region: we still know far too little about wild meat use and its social, cultural and ecological dimensions. Yet these issues are central to 🌱 biodiversity conservation, 🍽️ food security, 🤝 livelihoods, 🧬 One Health and Indigenous knowledge. I was honoured to share our experience from New Caledonia, where we are working with communities, customary authorities, NGOs, government agencies and researchers to build more sustainable futures for our flying foxes (🦇), while respecting their deep cultural importance. 💡 Conservation cannot succeed without understanding why people hunt, how wildlife is valued, and what solutions can be co-designed with local communities. 🙏 Thank you to everyone involved in the Wild Meat Dialogues for creating this fantastic platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing and evidence-based conservation across the Asia-Pacific. 🌏🌺 📖 Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/ghx5zHM6 With Robert Nasi, Jasmin Willis Key, Thuy Hoang and Freddy Pattiselanno A collaboration between FAO Centre de recherche forestière internationale (CIFOR) World Agroforestry CIRAD Wildlife Conservation Society European Commission AFD - Agence Française de Développement Fonds français pour l'environnement mondial (FFEM) for Sustainable Wildlife Management in Asia and the Pacific.
