The Power of Collaboration: Driving Financial Inclusion Through Shared Vision In a world where development challenges grow increasingly complex, collaboration isn’t just helpful; it’s essential. The recent convergence of stakeholders from the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN), German Sparkassenstiftung Southern Africa (DSIK), LUANAR-Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and The Reserve Bank of Malawi in Blantyre is a clear reminder of what can be achieved when institutions unite around a shared purpose. Bringing together individuals such as Mr. Duncan Phulusa, CEO of MAMN, and Ms. Theodora Ng'oma Ntaba, Vice Board Chair for MAMN, alongside Mr. Niclaus Bergmann, Managing Director for DSIK Germany, and Mr. Stefan Henkelmann, Head of Division Africa at DSIK, Mr. Andreas Gerner, Board Member from one of DSIK’s partnering Savings Banks, and Mr. Markus Tacke, Regional Coordinator for DSIK, Ms. Franziska Dost, Country Representative for DSIK, and academic leaders from LUANAR including Dr. Felix Maulidi, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Development Studies, and Dr. Sera Gondwe, Head of the Department of Agribusiness Management. Regulatory insights were brought in by Ms. Catherine Nkhwazi, Principal Examiner – Microfinance Regulation from The Reserve Bank of Malawi. These partners represent diverse sectors, international cooperation, academia, regulation, and grassroots financial networks, but their goals are aligned: to build a more inclusive, resilient, and innovative financial ecosystem for Malawi. This collaborative spirit is not just about exchanging knowledge. It’s about building bridges, aligning efforts, and creating space for co-creation, ensuring that solutions developed for the microfinance sector are technically sound, contextually relevant, and people-centered. As Malawi moves toward the aspirations set out in Vision 2063, partnerships like these are the bedrock for real progress. When each institution brings its strength to the table, be it policy direction, research, practical field experience, or international best practices, the result is a more connected, capable, and empowered sector. At MAMN, we remain committed to nurturing these kinds of partnerships, because lasting impact happens where collaboration thrives.
