Transgender communities (Khawaja Sira) in Pakistan have existed dating back to the 16th century. Activists today are leveraging social media to shine light on colonial-imposed discrimination against the Khawaja Sira. In parallel, avant-garde filmmakers are using cinema to explore the cultural identity of Pakistan and, more specifically, marginalized communities and culturally taboo spaces.
