Workforce churn isn’t just a people issue. It’s a productivity issue 🔎 Mace Construct's latest analysis in its Build Smart, Build Better report shows just how big the impact is: 👉 On a 500-operative project, high churn can cost ~£2,266 per hour worked 👉 On a 2,000-operative site, that rises to ~£20,000 per hour 👉 Scaled across the UK pipeline, that’s ~£1.3bn a year in lost output And the impact grows with scale. Larger, more complex projects take a double hit — lower productivity per worker, across bigger teams. So, the question is simple: Why are we still building projects in a way that makes churn inevitable? If we want to deliver the next decade of infrastructure with fewer people leaving sites, more certainty and better outcomes, workforce stability has to move from a “nice to have” to a core design principle.
