Municipality of Heerlen extends partnership with Brightlands The Municipality of Heerlen is investing in AI and innovation and has extended its partnership with Brightlands Smart Services Campus in the city until 2040. Until then, the municipality will invest €800,000 annually in, among other things, innovation programmes for businesses and a pre-seed fund for AI start-ups. The campus shareholders — the Province of Limburg and Maastricht University — welcome the agreement between the municipality and the campus. This investment will further strengthen the shared regional ecosystem for education, research and entrepreneurship. Together with Brightlands Smart Services Campus, Heerlen is reinforcing its position as a knowledge city and taking the next step in developing a place where businesses, researchers and students come together. In the coming years, this ecosystem will continue to grow. In September, Maastricht University will launch a new bachelor’s programme on the campus, marking a step towards a permanent presence in Heerlen city centre. UM President Pamela Habibović: “The strength of Brightlands across the four Limburg regions lies in each campus focusing on disciplines that fit the region. This also applies to the planned education and research developments of Maastricht University in Heerlen, starting with the new bachelor’s programme: Urban Sustainability Studies fits well with a city that has had to reinvent itself several times. With this addition, the campus, the city and the university can strengthen each other even further.” Read more in the Municipality of Heerlen’s announcement here (in Dutch): https://edu.nl/ehrnv #AI #Innovatie #Heerlen #Brightlands Gemeente Heerlen Provincie Limburg Brightlands
