👏 A milestone for stem cell-based therapies in Parkinson’s disease 👏 A landmark study led from Lunds universitet reports the first clinical results from the STEM-PD trial. The study shows that transplanting stem cell-derived dopamine progenitor cells into the brain is feasible. Eight people with Parkinson’s disease received the transplanted cells, and no serious side effects linked to the cell product were observed during the first year of follow-up 🙏 “The possibility of replacing dopamine neurons that are lost in Parkinson’s disease has been a long-standing goal in the field. The findings represent an important milestone for regenerative medicine approaches in Parkinson’s disease and support continued clinical development of stem cell-based therapies,” says Malin Parmar, Professor at Lund University and lead of the STEM-PD programme. The results build on decades of pioneering research in dopamine cell replacement therapy in Lund and close collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and the participating patients. The clinical trial was carried out through collaboration between scientists and clinicians at Lunds universitet University and University of Cambridge ✨ 📸 Skåne University Hospital, Gunnar Gunnarsson. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dRQ4gRx4 Skånes universitetssjukhus (Skåne University Hospital) Barker Lab Novo Nordisk Cellular Intelligence MultiPark- Multidisciplinary Neuroresearch Medicinska fakulteten, Lunds universitet #ParkinsonsDisease #StemCells #RegenerativeMedicine #Neuroscience #STEMPD
