How does the brain regulate dopamine - and what happens when this system is disrupted? In this video, Professor Claus Juul Løland shares insights from his research project Molecular Lego, which aims to map the protein complex responsible for dopamine regulation in the brain. His work explores how disruptions in this system can influence behaviour and contribute to conditions such as addiction. Claus Juul Løland is supported by the Lundbeck Foundation professorship programme, which aims to strengthen Danish neuroscience through long-term funding of leading researchers. His research addresses a key challenge: while dopamine plays a central role in motivation and reward, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Through his project, he combines advanced imaging technologies and molecular biology to study how the dopamine transporter interacts with other proteins. The ambition is to identify new targets for treatment and contribute to a deeper understanding of how brain chemistry shapes behaviour.
