Hiring for a Project Manager? I just saw a job description that completely baffled me. It literally looked like they were restructuring the entire team down to 1 person. The title was Project Manager. But the requirements asked for: The contractual understanding of a Land Agent. The technical depth to troubleshoot like a Grid Engineer. Forecasting abilities to build models like an analyst The leadership to run the field like a Construction Manager. Is this really one job? When you expect a PM to have expertise across all verticals, you don’t get a specialist. You get risk. A great PM doesn’t play all the instruments, they orchestrate. They ensure things start and end on time, safely and within budget. If you try hire a technical superhero, don’t be surprised when the ship sinks 3 months in. PM’s for managing. Specialist expertise to handle the rest. Did I get this wrong?
