Established to support the next generation of engineers, the second scholarship programme through the Lürssen Foundation is well underway. The project is fully funded and takes scholars around the world to advance their research in different settings. Last week was all about Germany. The scholars toured our shipyards, stepped aboard yachts under construction, met colleagues across our organisation, and pressure-tested their early findings by presenting to Peter Lürssen and our managing directors. It was a chance to experience what it takes beyond theory to build a yacht: passion, commitment, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and community. Their research covers two topics. One explores how advanced machine learning can improve model testing and identify opportunities for optimisation. The other is a study of hybrid propulsion systems. The depth these young engineers have already achieved in their research is highly commendable. The scholars will continue their research with continued support and mentorship from Lürssen and will spend the summer in the United States to further advance their projects. Peter Lürssen comments: “Find your passion and fully commit to the task. Engineers not only imagine solutions, they also build and implement them. That's the mindset we want to nurture through the Lürssen Foundation.”
