Reimagined: 60 Years of Impact Helping reshape Glasgow’s waterfront for a new era. Pacific Quay sits on the south bank of the River Clyde, around 1.5 miles west of Glasgow city centre. Once home to docks, shipbuilding and industry, the area fell into decline during the latter part of the 20th century as the city’s maritime industries contracted. LUC’s connection with the site began in the 1980s, when it was selected as the location for the hugely successful 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival. Our team was responsible for the design of several landscape elements – the start of a relationship with the area that would span more than three decades. The momentum created by the festival paved the way for the regeneration of Pacific Quay. During the 1990s, LUC helped develop the original masterplan and design guidance for what would become one of Scotland’s leading media and technology districts. We subsequently delivered landscape design across multiple phases of development, including office buildings, the Scottish Media Group headquarters, the Digital Media Quarter, and public realm enhancements around the BBC Scotland HQ and Glasgow Science Centre. In the 2010s, LUC also delivered the landscape design for the Clydeside Distillery, helping to extend the area’s transformation on the opposite bank of the Clyde. Today, Pacific Quay is a thriving destination for media, technology, culture and leisure. Its transformation from a post-industrial waterfront into a vibrant urban quarter demonstrates the lasting impact of regeneration rooted in a strong vision for place. #Reimagined #LUC60 #LandscapeArchitecture #EnvironmentalDesign #UrbanRegeneration #Glasgow #PublicRealm #WaterfrontRegeneration
