Reimagined: 60 Years of Impact Where landscape helped redefine the modern workplace. In the mid‑1980s, LUC’s work at Bedfont Lakes helped unlock a wider vision for regeneration at Harmondsworth Moor. Evidence presented at Public Inquiry supported the creation of a new corporate headquarters for British Airways – a project that brought together landscape, architecture and long‑term environmental planning. LUC led planning, masterplanning, implementation and ongoing landscape and ecological management for the wider scheme, working alongside architect Niels Torp. The result was Waterside – at the time one of the UK’s largest building projects, and a pioneering workplace environment designed around openness, flexibility and interaction. The campus introduced early ideas of biophilic design, with a glazed internal street lined with trees and water, alongside a series of external courtyards themed around the six continents. Set within a restored landscape of lakes, wetlands, woodlands and meadow, the development was fully integrated with the surrounding country park – connecting workplace and wider public realm. Opened by HM The Queen in 1998, Waterside received multiple awards including Civic Trust, Landscape Institute, RIBA and British Construction Industry awards. It remains a leading example of how brownfield regeneration can combine environmental restoration with ambitious architectural thinking to shape new ways of working. #Reimagined #LUC60 #LandscapeArchitecture #EnvironmentalDesign #BrownfieldRegeneration #WorkplaceDesign #BiophilicDesign #WestLondon
