Part 2 - Aircraft engines The last post I wrote a little about 4 stroke and reaction engines for aircrafts. This post is about reaction engines. The first reaction engine was the turbojet engine based on Frank Whittle and later Hans von Ohain (earlier WW2). This concept uses a radial compressor. The concept evoluet for a radial compressor, for exemple the Me 262 . The second concept is the Turbofan. It uses the reaction engine to provid thrust and power for the compressor. But the most important function is provide power for the fan, the fan generate the thrust. The first modell was Daimler-Benz DB 007 . Now a days CFM, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and GE produce turbofan engines with high bypass ratio. György Jendrassik first turboprop concep was 1928, but the first engine worked only in 1938. Similar than Turbofan, but turbaine schaft is conected to a gear box to provide rotation control to the propeller. Now a days the turbojets are used for military aircrafts. Turbofan and turboprop are used for comercial aircrafts.
