Most of what is called conflict assumes that every encounter is moving toward a solution. Yet some realities do not yield to resolution, however carefully they are approached. There are crossings that cannot be completed, only inhabited, and fidelities that remain unintelligible to every vocabulary designed to produce closure. Between the banks of certainty lies another place, one that asks not to be solved, but endured.
