Just finished up a post on why the whole concept of "filter early in SQL" that has been going around on LinkedIn is misguided most of the time, but does have its roots in reality. Like you need to expect that moving your filters from the WHERE clause to a CTE is usually not necessary (and just means you are typing a lot more to do the same thing.)
