Are your process choices today supporting your needs tomorrow? Many biologics processes are designed around speed in the early stages. Later, the conversation changes. Manufacturing costs become more visible, capacity needs shift, and supply continuity moves higher on the priority list. In “Making More from Every Bioreactor with Lonza's OptiALTO® Intensified Fed-Batch Platform,” Ben Neunstoecklin, PhD, argues that process intensification deserves a closer look before those pressures become limiting factors. Data from multiple monoclonal antibody-producing cell lines showed an average titer uplift of ~70%, alongside automated process control designed to support consistency. Process intensification should not be viewed as a technical upgrade, but as a business decision. When applied at the right stage of development, it can help extend manufacturing capacity, improve production economics, and create greater flexibility as demand evolves.
