What does IBD care look like today? Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) affects approximately 10 million people worldwide. While symptoms primarily impact the gut, they also affect overall health, with patients frequently reporting reduced quality of life. In around 25% of cases, IBD patients will develop symptoms beyond the guts such as skin or joints manifestations. These coexisting conditions often stem from shared underlying immune dysregulation, where similar inflammatory pathways impact multiple organs and systems. This broader group of interconnected, immune-driven conditions is known as immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). Despite this, IBD and related IMIDs are still too often managed in silos, both clinically and at the research level. This fragmented approach becomes even more limiting given the complexity of treatment. For instance, while some therapies are effective across multiple IMIDs, others may induce or worsen co-existing conditions. So, how do we move toward more integrated care that includes IMIDs? In our latest whitepaper, we explore: 🔍 Why fragmentation is holding back IBD care 🔍 How real-world data can help to map the full patient journey 🔍 The role of Healthcare Observatories in bringing together real-world data on conditions, treatments, and outcomes By moving beyond silos, we can better understand the full patient journey, and ultimately enable more informed, personalised care. 📄 Curious to learn more about the future of holistic IBD care?
