🎨 Exploring Baroque ceiling paintings as spatial works of art 🔬A team led by LMU art historian Professor Stephan Hoppe and Dr. Matteo Burioni is studying this cultural heritage using state-of-the-art technologies, including 3D reconstructions and simulations of lighting conditions. Their work makes visible artworks that cannot be exhibited in museums. At the same time, it opens up new research questions: How did ceiling paintings appear by candlelight? What role did sensory perception play? And how did artistic knowledge and techniques spread across Europe? “We’re essentially a virtual museum,” says Stephan Hoppe, LMU art historian. The project shows how interdisciplinary and digital the humanities have become. As Hoppe observes: “For us, digitalization has been a truly successful model for engaging with the public.” Many people, he adds, have only discovered the works in the first place because they are digitally accessible. ✨ Read more via Link in the comments! #LMU #ArtHistory #DigitalHumanities #CulturalHeritage #AI #3DReconstruction Leibniz-Rechenzentrum
