🎓 Katharina Kainz is in the final stages of her PhD in #ArtHistory and has written her dissertation on the Wittelsbach reliquary collection. 👏 🔎 Her decision to attend #LMU was a deliberate one: the combination of research assistantship and structured support gave her the opportunity to develop her research topic in a focused manner from the very beginning. The LMU Mentoring Program was particularly influential, supporting her with individual coaching during the grant application process. This enabled her to secure two successful grants: “With a scholarship from the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, I spent four months researching in archives in Rome. Subsequently, my doctoral studies were funded by the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, allowing me to focus entirely on my research.” ⌚ The biggest #challenges according to Katharina: structuring her time without fixed deadlines and staying motivated. “The early stages of a dissertation can be especially critical when you don’t yet know exactly where the path is leading!” 📚 Her most important #support: In addition to funding, above all writing groups and her personal network. “What helped me the most was joining a writing group with other doctoral candidates—that’s how you build a community and motivate each other.” 💡Her #highlights: Not only did I make new friends, but I also had the opportunity to travel extensively. In addition to the fellowship in Rome, a particular highlight was my time as a visiting research scholar in Manhattan—with my own office right in the heart of New York. An absolute childhood dream! Today, she continues her research: In the project “Corpus of Baroque Ceiling Painting in Germany,” she documents and studies churches and monasteries.
