I’m very pleased to share our new paper, now published in #PNAS: “Temperature and developmental stage govern intestinal susceptibility to human coronavirus 229E.” This work began during my doctoral research, where I developed and validated the human enteroid models and performed the foundational infection analyses. It was subsequently expanded substantially by my co-first author, Aleksandra Synowiec, together with the wider collaborative team. I’m grateful to Aleksandra Synowiec, Krzysztof Pyrc, and all our co-authors for the excellent collaboration, and proud to share co-first authorship on this study. The paper shows how both temperature and developmental stage influence intestinal susceptibility to HCoV-229E, helping explain why infection may differ between children and adults.
