Why should anyone be led by you? A wonderful question used to research Authentic Leadership by Rob Goffee and Gareth Jones. How long would it take you to answer this question, and what would your answer be? Authentic Leadership is often discussed in the workplace but it is more than being you. Does being you mean sharing everything with your team? To help understand this further it is important to know what to share and when. Be aware of the context of the situation. Understand when to show empathy versus when to show the vision of the goal. Relationships take time and nurture. Listening when a colleague has plucked up the courage to come and speak to you and giving them the time needed. Being consistent with the check-in rather than a tick in the box exercise. Do what you say you are going to do with consistency. Authenticity is about being yourself with skill and that takes experience. If you are looking to develop your leadership skills then I would love to hear from you. #authenticleadership #leadership #skills #persondevelopment
