It was a great honor for us to welcome a delegation from our partner country Tanzania to Session 2 of LithiumDays 2024, led by His Excellency Ambassador Hassani Iddi Mwamweta from the Tanzanian Embassy in Berlin. Under the focus "Tanzania: Lithium’s Role in Industrialization," Gregor Borg opened the session with introductory remarks, followed by an inspiring speech by the Ambassador. Sundi Malomo from the Mining Commission Tanzania introduced the topic of environmental policy and law in the Tanzanian mining industry. The keynote on Lithium in Africa was delivered by Paul Nex from the University of the Witwatersrand, followed by presentations from Elisante Mshiu (University of Dar es Salaam) and Ilse Boshoff from Knauf Gypsum Tanzania Ltd. In the subsequent panel discussion, the speakers, together with Prof. Borg and Prof. Ulrich Blum, discussed the role of lithium and other battery minerals in the industrialization of Tanzania. Stay tuned for the last session of conference day 1 on case studies about primary lithium resources.
