Here's a story that perfectly sums up what we're about and how we work. #ListerFellow Alex Borodavka and collaborators recently published a great new paper in EMBO Journal (link in first comment). It adds a missing mechanistic bridge in understanding protein condensate formation in rotavirus replication. Combining machine learning analytics and experimental studies, the team showed that phosphorylation drives an allosteric switch that tunes how NSP5 engages NSP2 depending on context and virus variant. šŸ˜Ž But that's not the only cool thing about this publication. Lister summer student Jamie Terry is a co-author on the paper too! We spoke with Jamie and some other Lister Summer Studentship participants earlier this year to find out if their stint in a top biomedical research lab helped them make choices about future research directions. Read that story here šŸ‘‰ https://lnkd.in/eBwFutQi "The studentship bridged the gap between the classroom learning environment and the research environment," Jamie said, "allowing me to develop insights into what it might take to pursue a PhD or even an academic career in the future. "The freedom I was given in the lab grew my confidence as an independent researcher." We think that's definitely a result!
