It is with sadness that we report the death of Harold Fenwick FRICS, D-Day veteran turned chartered surveyor - and the oldest person to be supported by LionHeart - just a few months after he marked his 103rd birthday. Harold died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Cyprus, where he had moved after retiring, and an email from his children to LionHeart read: “Thanks to the assistance of LionHeart, dad was able to enjoy living at home until aged 103, enjoying his views across the valley and a simple but very content life. We appreciate all the support you were able to give him over the past few years.” LionHeart and fellow charity SSAFA were represented at a birthday party to mark Harold turning 103 in March. At the time he was remarkably still using a mobility scooter to get around, and enjoyed popping to his local taverna for a bite to eat and a lively conversation about politics and current affairs. Harold was one of the 60,000 British troops involved in the 1944 D-Day landings, then aged 21. His time on the front line was later ended after he was seriously injured by a mortar shell, but he went on to enjoy a long successful career as a chartered surveyor. Throughout his career, he donated to LionHeart through his RICS subs, never imagining he would one day need our support himself. Paul Cunningham, the LionHeart support officer that looked after Harold’s case, said: “Harold had a fascinating life story and we were saddened to hear of his death this week. It was our privilege to have supported him in his final few years, just as he had supported us earlier in his career.
