We gave zebrafish Parkinson's. And here's why: They provide a fast, whole-organism platform for identifying and screening compounds that prevent the loss of dopaminergic neurons. Zebrafish and humans share a conserved dopaminergic system. Exposure to the neurotoxin MPTP induces selective loss of zebrafish dopaminergic neurons, also eliciting characteristic symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Candidate compounds are co-incubated with MPTP. Then we apply an experimental dark/light protocol to capture the MPTP-induced Parkinson's phenotype: → A 25-minute alternating light/dark environment (5 min each). → Larval movement is tracked and analyzed with Daniovision™ software (Noldus IT). → Locomotor responses are quantified to screen candidates at scale. This is what the zebrafish Parkinson's pipeline looks like in practice: move fast, quantify early, and only advance what works. We can help you too.
